Egan Park

Egan Park is an excellent, 5-acre day-use park in St. Pete Beach. There is a boat launch, along with a fishing pier, two ball fields, a playground, and a bike trail. Two tennis courts are available, as are two pickleball courts. Entry is free.

It’s rare to find a park like this in cities, especially a park that offers so much for free. Egan Park is on the waterfront and is a great place to spend time before or after using your boat for the day.

Shell Key Preserve

Shell Key Preserve is one of many great parks near St. Pete Beach. It can only be accessed by boat, as it is an island nature preserve and, therefore separate from the mainland. However, camping spots are available if you want to make the most of your time here.

The island is composed of a naturally occurring sandbar and shifts over time accordingly. Hurricane Irma carved a channel between Shell Key and the mainland, making it a proper island just offshore. It’s a great place to camp for a few days and enjoys some secluded peace relative to the mainland. The swimming is also great, but always use caution when swimming where there are ocean currents.

The preserve also features the Blueway Trail system, a network of boardwalks suspended above the ground to not disturb the wildlife. The trail system covers the entire preserve and is an easy, enjoyable hike. As the preserve is located in the St. Pete Beach area, you’re never far from town; therefore, it’s a great day trip into nature. Bring bug spray and sunscreen, and you’ll have a great time.
